Diligence and frugality is a fine tradition of the Chinese nation, and food security is an important foundation of national security. The current domestic and international security situation is complicated, and the sudden epidemic has posed multiple challenges to global food security. The theme of China's National Food Security Publicity Week is "Hold China's Rice Bowl, Build Global Food Security Together".

 

At present, mankind has not completely rid itself of famine. This year, the epidemic has hit global food security even harder. The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2020, released on July 13 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, estimates that the number of undernourished people in the world will increase by 83 million to 132 million in 2020.

 

China's Rural Development Report 2020, jointly released by the Rural Development Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the China Social Sciences Press, predicts that by the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan (about 2025), China is likely to have a grain gap of about 130 million tons.

 

In recent years, China's grain production capacity has been continuously improved, and grain reserves are sufficient. In the past 10 years, China's grain production has continued to increase, reaching a record high of 664 million tons in 2019, an increase of 0.9% over 2018.

 

However, there are many problems in the quality of China's grain while the output has increased significantly. Data show that the detection rate of vomitoxin, zearalenone, ochratoxin, aflatoxin and other mycotoxins in China's grain is high, and they are widely present in corn, wheat, rice and other grains that people consume in large quantities. In addition, one-fifth of China's arable land is polluted by heavy metals (nearly 20 million hectares), and up to 12 million tons of grain are polluted by heavy metals every year, and economic losses are as high as billions of yuan.

 

Therefore, while strengthening scientific and technological investment to improve grain production, it is also particularly important to use advanced testing instruments to strengthen the detection of grain quality and improve grain quality. In 2018, the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, and the Ministry of Science and Technology jointly issued the implementation opinions on "Developing Grain through Science and Technology". The "Opinions" pointed out that to vigorously implement the "science and technology to promote grain quality and safety science and technology innovation, break through the bottleneck of rapid detection technology, and develop rapid automatic collection and quality testing equipment for grain acquisition sites; To study and establish the quality classification system of main grains and develop special grain quality evaluation instruments.

 

At present, China's scientific and technological personnel have developed a series of rapid detection instruments and technologies for heavy metals, mycotoxins and pesticides. By increasing the sample collection density in areas with serious food pollution, it will be possible to build a food quality safety information management system based on big data, and build food quality and safety classification supervision, quantitative classification management and electronic traceability and early warning systems.

 

In addition to the use of testing instruments to strengthen the detection of food quality, strengthening scientific and technological investment in food storage is also one of the important links to ensure food security. By installing a gas sensor in the granary to detect the concentration of gas in the granary in real time: Through the phosphine gas sensor, the concentration of phosphine gas can be detected in real time during fumigation; The oxygen sensor can detect the oxygen concentration in the warehouse in real time, provide a basis for low temperature and low oxygen storage, reduce the occurrence of diseases and pests, and so on.
